Bills in the California Legislature,


AB 14 (Horton) (Dec 2, 2002) AB 14 Assembly Bill - AMENDED

This bill intends to modify the Public Contract Code relating to public contracts. Existing law provides various procedures, including competitive bidding, for different types of contracts involving state and local public entities, including school districts. This bill would authorize, until December 2007, "Job Order Contracting" as defined by the Los Angeles Unified School District.

The District, under this bill, would be able to utilize cost effective options for the delivery of public works projects, in accordance with the national trend such as the use of  "Job Order Contracting"

A "Job Order Contract" is a competitively bid contract in which the contractor agrees to a fixed period, fixed unit price, and indefinite quantity contract that provides the use of job orders for public works or maintenance projects.

SB 523 (Escutia) (Feb 23, 2003)SB 523 Senate Bill - INTRODUCED

Existing law (Sec 912 of the Civil Code) imposes certain prerequisites, including certain pre-litigation procedures, in order to bring an action against a builder or developer of new residential housing on or after January 1, 2003, for construction defects. The bill seeks to modify the procedures and requirements for the production of project documents.




There is significant pressure from state officials for San Francisco to upgrade its public buildings and utilities in preparation of a major earthquake. In response, the San Francisco Public Utilities is floating a $3.6 billion dollar revenue bond to improve the city's and Peninsula's Hetch Hetchy water delivery system.
