Recreation Case Study Blackhawk Golf Course and Country Club Contra Costa County, CA Education Commercial/Office Residential Recreation Site Development The challenge: Drainage issues were a major concern of the Blackhawk Golf Course- the county was worried about altering drainage patterns and causing floods downstream. The owner had struggled with proving to the county that a grading system would have minimal impact on the flood routing system, and the county would not issue a final permit until they were certain that the golf course drainage would not have an adverse impact on flooding downstream. Our solution: To address these challenges, we used the latest techniques to conduct a flood study analysis and evaluate how water would flow through the site. We also designed the reconfiguration of the spillway system. Within just three weeks, our team was able to convince the county that a drainage and grading system and retrofitted spillway structure would help improve flood control and manage peak floods.
